This is the perfect bench press/squat rack combo unit, as they can be used either as a bench or as a squat rack. The unit is rather easy to construct and the end product, very sturdy. All you need are 217 mm wrenches or something equivalent to get the unit really tight. Though the stand is sturdy, it’s better to have extra weight plates on its bottom pegs, especially if you plan to do really heavy weights.
I liked the bar holder/protector of the unit as it prevents the bar from moving from the top position. This feature is especially great if you have children like I do, as it prevents kids from removing the bar.
It also helps in using the stand for pull-ups as the bar doesn’t roll around. I liked the three levels of pins on the bar as its top pin is comfortable for my 6 foot husband to work out with. While I use the middle level, the bottom pin is great for doing floor presses.
As I am an average built woman, I don’t actually use large amount of weights on the stand during workouts. However, what I liked the most about the stand is its adjustable height and anchor on the top which lets me use the stand even for chin-ups! For security reasons, I use and suggest having about 40 pounds of barbells on the bar and a minimum of 30 pounds on the bottom peg of each stand while doing chin-ups.
Though I have not used the unit for bench presses yet (I have only performed squats and chin-ups so far), I have to mention there is an adjustable safety bracket and holder to use for the barbell while performing bench presses. So in a nutshell, this is a great unit to use for squats and presses at home.Google+
